AI Money features
The seven ways an expense gets into AI Money, what the free plan allows for each one, and which platform it runs on.
AI Money records your spending through seven different routes, and all of them end up in the same list of movements. You can send it a WhatsApp message, dictate a voice note, photograph the receipt, type it by hand, or let the app read your bank’s alert SMS on its own. Because entries do not depend on a bank reporting them, cash gets recorded too, and it works with any bank in any country. Here is each route, which platform it runs on, and what the free plan allows.
How does an expense get into AI Money?
The difference between an expense app people keep using and one they abandon is almost never the reports. It is what it costs to log the bakery run before you forget it. That is why there are seven doors instead of one, and why everybody settles on a different one.
| How you log it | What you do | Where it works | Free plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp message | You write “lunch 12 bucks” to the bot | iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android | 2 entries a day |
| Voice note on WhatsApp | You dictate it in an audio of up to 30 seconds | iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android | Inside the 2 daily entries |
| Receipt photo on WhatsApp | You photograph the bill and send it | iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android | 10 images a day |
| Receipt scan inside the app | You point the camera at the bill | iPhone, iPad and Android | Included |
| Dictation inside the app | You speak and the phone transcribes | iPhone, iPad and Android | Included |
| Bank alert SMS | Nothing: the app reads the bank’s message | Android only | Pro feature |
| Apple Pay purchase | Nothing, after setting up an iOS Shortcut once | iPhone only | Pro feature |
Typing the movement by hand inside the app is the eighth route, and it is unlimited on the free plan. So are categories and budgets.
Every feature, explained
What does the app do with expenses once they are in?
Everything that comes in lands in the same ledger, whichever door it arrived through. Out of that come per-category budgets, savings pockets with goals, debt tracking with real interest accrual, reports with charts, and exports to Excel, CSV and PDF. Denis, the app’s assistant, answers questions about your own numbers: where the month went, how much you have spent on restaurants, which category blew up.
Your history is stored on the phone, in a local database. Cloud backup and multi-device sync exist as a switch in Settings and are part of Pro, so if you never turn it on, your movements never leave the device.
Do you have to connect a bank for it to work?
You do not, and the app will not ask for your online banking credentials. Expenses arrive because you send, dictate, photograph or type them, and on Android because the app reads the alert SMS your bank already sends you.
That has one practical consequence you notice from day one: cash gets recorded, and cash is precisely what a bank-linked app cannot see, which matters a great deal in countries where much of everyday spending never touches a card. It also works with any bank in any country, with no supported-institution list to fall outside of.
Which platforms and languages does it run on?
AI Money runs on iPhone and iPad from iOS 13, on Mac with Apple silicon from macOS 11, and on Android. The interface is available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Japanese, and the WhatsApp bot answers in those same four languages. There are home screen widgets on both platforms, and a currency converter that is free for everyone.
Frequently asked questions about AI Money features
Log transactions by hand without any limit, create as many categories and budgets as you want, scan receipts, dictate expenses and use the currency converter, with no card and no trial that expires. Through WhatsApp, the free plan allows 2 entries a day and 10 images a day. AI Money Pro removes those caps and adds automatic bank-SMS reading on Android and Apple Pay capture on iPhone.
You do not, and the app never asks for online banking credentials either. Expenses come in because you send them through WhatsApp, dictate them, photograph the receipt or type them by hand, and on Android because the app reads the alert SMS your bank sends. The consequence is that cash gets recorded too, and that it works with any bank in any country without depending on a list of supported institutions.
On your phone, in a local database. Cloud backup and syncing across several devices are a switch in Settings that is part of Pro: if you never turn it on, your list of movements is not copied to any server. What does leave the phone is the content of a message, a receipt photo or a question to the assistant, because an AI model is needed to interpret them, and that is disclosed in the privacy policy.
iPhone and iPad on iOS 13 or later, Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 11 or later, and Android. There are home screen widgets on both platforms. Some ways of logging depend on the system: bank SMS reading and payment-notification capture exist only on Android, and Apple Pay capture through a Shortcut only on iPhone.
Yes. Each currency stays in its own world and amounts are not converted on their own, so an expense in dollars still reads in dollars. A switch in the app turns on a converted view when you want to see everything together in your main currency. There is also a separate currency converter, free for everyone, that does not touch your list of movements.
No. It is not a bank, a wallet or a payment app: it records money that has already moved and never moves money itself. It does not cancel subscriptions on your behalf either, although it does track them with their renewal dates so you can decide. The interest figures it calculates for debts and savings are shown in the app as estimates.
